Jack Harvey Award Recipient Rebekah Stewart 6th Gr Math Teacher

Mrs. Stewart is the kind of educator every student hopes to have.  She embodies the very best of what it means to be an educator.  Colleagues consistently describe her as someone who “goes above and beyond for her students,” creating engaging, thoughtful lessons while building strong relationships rooted in kindness and high expectations.  One teammate shared how much they admire the way Mrs. Stewart checks for understanding, slowing down instruction to ask for a thumbs up or thumbs down, ensuring every student feels supported.  That care extends beyond the classroom.  Before her own daughter even entered middle school, one staff member said she hoped she would be “lucky enough to get Mrs. Stewart,” and now that she has had Mrs. Stewart  as her teacher, “she loves her. How lucky we are.” These and many more are all reasons why Mrs. Stewart is so deserving of the Jack Harvey Award.

Rebekah Stewart, 6th Grade Math teacher at Bridgeport Middle School, was honored by being chosen as the recipient of the Weatherford College Jack Harvey Academy of Exemplary Teachers Award for Bridgeport ISD at a banquet held on February 25, 2026. Celebrating its 30th year, the Harvey Academy honors exemplary teachers in memory of Professor Emeritus Jack Harvey, who taught at Weatherford College for 23 years and was considered among his peers as a “master teacher.”

After returning from maternity leave, Mrs. Stewart “hit the ground running,” working tirelessly to help students get back on target and developing systems of support for those who struggle.  She leads the 6th grade math PLC with excellence, impressing district APs with her team’s data-driven work, and even hosts tutorials before and after school on her own time.  Colleagues describe her as reliable, innovative, and always willing to think outside the box.  “Rebekah is always trying to make her lessons better,” one teammate shared, while another simply said, “She’s also the GOAT.”  Whether through her engaging lessons, deep questioning, or constant smile, Mrs. Stewart challenges students to think at high levels while making them feel valued every single day…making her truly deserving of the Jack Harvey Award.
